Title: Slipping clutch Post by: Harvey on 07 January, 2008, 07:23:27 PM Uh-oh. The clutch has started to slip on the Ypsilon. 39k on the odometer.
I can think of 3 reasons: 1. Poor quality of clutch fitted originally 2. The car had a hard life in her first 12 months as a demonstrator 3. Too much boy racer driving on my part Naturally, number 3 is right out. I did all my excessive acceleration in the Dedra, which tended to speed up quite nicely when you pressed the fast pedal. Number 1 is surely unlikely in this modern era? Even if it was sub-standard, it's hard to prove and waaaaay out of warranty. So that leaves number 2. I want confessions from those of you who borrowed this car and had far too much fun in your 48 hours. Usual e-mail address. All guilty parties' details will be kept confidential. Promise. :) Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: Harvey on 25 January, 2008, 04:46:56 PM OK, no confessions yet, but there's still time. The car's booked in next Wednesday. Anyone want to have a guess what the local Fiat dealer will charge to fit a new clutch...? Closest guess wins a drink at the AGM.

Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: Harvey on 29 January, 2008, 10:04:45 AM My first guess would have been in line with Geoff's. Every Lancia bill seems to be somewhere between £400 and £499 somehow. I'm sure it's a conspiracy!
Well, we'll find the truth tomorrow... Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: sparehead3 on 29 January, 2008, 12:24:40 PM £350 ...

The dealer's just phoned me to say they have a customer trying to source "the same car as you have" and wanted to know if I wanted to trade in...! (Anyone on here?) Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: inthedark on 29 January, 2008, 05:35:12 PM That's got to be a joke, Why would anyone want to buy a car with a slipping clutch ???
Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: Scarpia on 29 January, 2008, 06:01:14 PM the sound , feeling and style without the speeding fines perhaps....
Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: Harvey on 29 January, 2008, 08:09:28 PM She's not for sale! I think the short life on the clutch must be down to the hills and traffic in Bath. ::)
Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: Harvey on 05 February, 2008, 03:35:03 PM John wins, but only by the devious method of submitting two bids - a penny under and a penny over Geoff's...
New clutch on an Ypsilon = £443 :'( Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: fay66 on 05 February, 2008, 05:03:11 PM OUCH!!! :( :( :(
Brian Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: Scarpia on 05 February, 2008, 05:40:04 PM Wait till John reads the small print.
He gets a free drink at the agm, but he has to fit the new clutch in the car park..... Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: Harvey on 05 February, 2008, 07:02:38 PM New clutch plate and thrust bearing, reconditioned plate spring, plus freeing and lubricating the seized cable. I've just been educated on clutch components by a very nice young lady at the dealership. Naturally, being a man, I had to nod knowingly as she described the fault despite not having a clue what she was on about. :)
Title: Re: Slipping clutch Post by: inthedark on 05 February, 2008, 07:54:19 PM I still win, because I made the first and let's be honest, a GUESS at the price and considering
