Hi all
Guess what the charging light is on all the time and the same brightness...something to look at. Better news with the starter I was worried the starter motor control relay a triple relayed Bosch thing might be on the fritz but after connecting the starter motor up and earthing it with a jumper lead it spun merrily on the key so a nice result there. The headlamp flasher relay was disconnected and a nice bundle of taped up joints were hiding behind the aluminium cover on the inner wing. I dismantled the relay and it looks OK but I will have to lash 12volts across it to see if it is up to snuff. Thing is we seem to have too many wires as the original headlamp control relay has disappeared it should be next to the fuse box but we have a gap and the wires taped up and the guvvy job switch connected via a length of 3 core. So when we look at the headlamp flash button on the steering wheel it was locked solid so possibly it had been causing problems so the headlamp control relay was ditched...who knows? I will try and reassemble the steering wheel so we have some movement on the headlamp flash button in the centre of the wheel. Moving on to the fans we find one of our fans is missing (drivers side) but if we connect a stray wire to the battery +ve the fan on the passenger side stumbled into life, so if anybody has a spare fan I would be grateful.

Some pictures
the first one shows the bosch starter control relay notice the gap next to it
the second one the disconnected headlamp flashing relay
the third the orphan wires wandering around behind the cover
finally the wheel dismantled note the damaged black plastic insulator

Thanks for all the photos Clarkey, most helpful. I found the fuel outlet on my tank - anybody know what the fitting is?

I think I may end up re drawing the wiring diagram, possibly with some colour coding, or at least bigger, because I struggle to follow all the parallel lines. I will most likely be doing a complete re wire.

I blew up the wiring diagram for the Berlina to A5 then used a light box to trace individual circuits onto separate sheets of paper. Even at that scale it requires a lot of concentration not to switch tracks. Re the ventilation fan, I had a look for a spare then recalled giving it to someone to replace one in a Fulvia Berlina. That suggests the same fan motor was used on multiple Lancia models.

Hi Frank...I think later Appias use the same type. I must admit the wiring diagrams are hard work and I had thought of the A5 thing but really an A3 printer might be better.

I was counting in the wrong direction on paper sizes. I blew it up to A3 on the copier at work before I retired. Few circuits run the entire length of the diagram or if they do they have long straight sections in the middle so tracing them onto A4 makes them a convenient size to file.

I had not thought of blowing it up to A3 on a photocopier Hmmm I wonder if matron would do it for me at her university? surely they have lots of photocopiers?

Hi all
Had another look at the missing relay problem and it struck me that the mark left on the inner wing was very similar to the relay used on an Appia to change the headlamp over. I thought at first it was too big but the mounting holes on the inner wing lined up nicely with the holes in an Appia relay I had. On further checking it looks as if the bullet connectors would fit straight in and the wiring numbering looks to be the same as well. Will investigate further after I can find an Appia relay that works. The pictures show the relay sitting on the inner wing and what is going on inside. Also had a play with the headlamp flasher on the steering wheel. I decided to straighten out the horn/flasher push as it was a bit bent. Reassembly is a bit tricky but by taping the metal horn/flasher push in place on the steering wheel I was able to get the two screws in and it is all tightend up. On reflection the action of the headlamp flasher button is better so the next job is to repair the damaged wire at the engine end of the column then do a bit of testing before we power it up. If I can see the earth from the button only when the button is depressed that will be  good news as I have sorted out the relay so should have headlamp flashing.

The wiring is on the fritz as sometimes the fuel pump etc works then it doesn't The fuse box is really crusty and the connector block just below it is in a worse state. I might have to get stuck in and dismantle it all and get all the fluffy green bits off, the good news is the wiring is still in very good condition it is just the bullet connectors into the fuse box that are giving me the eabie jeebies

My berlina came with a host of electrical problems which a thorough fuse box clean up cured so good luck.
