Lancashire Meeting
« on: 24 July, 2009, 03:30:39 PM »

I don't know if there are any members who may be interested in re-starting a monthly Lancs meet. Its probably seven years since we last had a meeting at the Boatyard in Riley Green. Like all events this venue took off in '99 after the demise of the Lancs/South Lakes group and initially had about regular 10 members, however like always numbers peter out and in the end only a couple of people turn up. I do not know who is out there and where the most central location would be, but any kind of interest/ideas/preferred location would be a start. Its funny as my name (along with Alan Faircloughs) is still in the back of VL advertising the Lancia meet, but I bet I have not had a phone call within the past five years.
Come on folks, give some feedback!

Regards,

Paul Greenway.

Hi Paul, nice to see you all at AGM, what we would like to see is, a reunion of the (splinter group) that used to meet in the lakes pre xmas, Alan knows what and who i mean, and could explain more, they were good fun. Cheers Roger. :D

Roger,

I remember those, we used to meet at Atilio's old place- Oak Bank?- for the weekend. Wonder if anyone else out there is interested in maybe a nostalgic pre Christmas reunion obviously at a different venue, I think Atilios latest place is possibly a little small from what I have heard, although I have not been.

Cheers,

Roger,

Red Lion sounds good, but it does not have to be Grasmere, if anyone else can recommend a good South Lakes Hotel or Guest House that does good scran, accommodates Lancias & children (not necessarily in that order luv!), we'd certainly be going. Anyone any thoughts?

No problem. I'll throw it open to any suggestions, of hotel and location, we'll go with the flow.

If something is arranged in the Lakes, I would be interested in attending (work permitting!).  I will have think about where could be a suitable venue, but as I don't know South Lakes particularly well, I can't promise anything!

We used to have LMC meetings on a Sunday morning at "The Swan" in Newby Bridge in mid-late '90s, even had the AGM there in '98, wonder what its like now, its been done up and the car park has grown, had a bar snack there last April when on the GNW tour- quite resonable too, but no idea what the room rates are. Could always enquire I suppose, but need some numbers & interest first.
The only issue with The Swan is its tendency to attract the wet grey stuff whenever we go there.

Stu, have you had any Cumbria meetings recently? Is there any interest in a Lancs/Cumbria JV monthly meet- somewhere midway. Just a thought.

Cheers,

Paul G.

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately there has been insufficient interest to get the Cumbria meetings going.  I am still trying to think of ways of generating more interest.  I did have a get together with some of the 'old' Cumbria members who are no longer in the LMC.  They may be interested as they did not hold the monthly meetings in the same place each month but visited different locations around the county.  When I get a few moments spare, I will try and see what interest there is among the Cumbrian members.

The Swan was a nice hotel, we were there in 98 for the AGM, but stayed across the road, as had mk1 hound with us, but Swan sound s like a good possibility, count us in .

I think The Swan could be a good location for an end of year meet-up - but not too near Christmas!!

Hi Paul

Any space for soft southerner's , well midlander's? We would be interested as we used to go to 'The Lakes' many years ago when we
were members of the TR Register. They used to and still do have a weekend in September based around Newby Bridge /Swan Hotels so
I could make some enquires to see what our friends think of them?

Regards

Steve
