Rain made it a pretty dismal day at Mallory Park for a round of the Hillclimb/Sprint Championship but Pietro Caccamo (I think that is the right spelling, please correct me if different) managed to beat the much more powerful TVR. A picure of the white Fulvia is in reports at www.retro-speed.co.uk |

Minilites were used from around 1965 by several works teams but not by Lancia as we know. As this car is a 76 Series three and not running in a championship where homologation is severe I would have thought it purely up to asthetic feelings of the driver. Naturally Cromadoras would look better. It is nice to see the car being used. Sorry, should add, the Grahams rally their Fulvia on Minilites as well.

Its an interesting point, I seem to remember somewhere in the distant pass maybe there was a contractual problem, although I think your question relates to whether it was physically possible. I will check it out and come back.

They could always be Skoda wheels.  cos they are similar and will fit, off a Rapide i think, but not the Vincent Rapide  |

I think ‘standard’ Minilites (whatever standard means!) will fit one series of Fulvia, but not the other. I once got caught in the crossfire between a vendor, who sold the Minilites from his Coupe to the late Ron O’Connor who wanted to fit them to his Series 1.5 Sport. Ron needed to have a massive amount of material turned out from the inside of the wheels to clear the rear brake (hand brake?) mechanism and it all ended in tears. I was only the go-between.

I have been speaking to a minilite person and now understand a bit more. The original wheels were cast on orders given by Stuart Turner of BMC for the Mini and Rootes for the Tiger, early 1964 they were magnesum and only avaliable in certain sizes. The offset would not allow Fulvia fitment. Even now, although the wheels are avaliable in both mag and alloy (which is preferred as it is stronger) it is unlikely they fit a Fulvia. Hamilton Classics 0118 973 7300 will gladly discuss the possibilty of modifying centres to fit. Should you order original magnesium the waiting list for delivery could be twelve months as the manufacturing process is highly controlled and only carried out in batches.
Re the minilite look-alikes, the Skoda and Saab rims were manufactured by Ronal, a company based in Holland.

Just to shed some light/ lite on Minilites/ Minilights for Fulvias. Here are some photos from 1995 of the ex- Ron O’Connor S1.5 Sport complete with Minilites. I think the car had S2 Girling brakes, which necessitated machining metal out of the inside of the wheels to clear the callipers.
The guy in the photo is not Ron, it was the bloke who was trying to sell the car at the time.
