And the other even rustier one. Note that the hinge pin holes still have the remains of sheared off hinge pins in them which is why there don't appear to be any holes!

Final pic is the actual hinge on my (1937) car that I meant to put up first!
Regarding the stay or prop, from the first photo you can see that I have reinforced the drain channel where it locates to spread the load. Rather crudely I admit but I did it at least 25 years ago. Otherwise it is as it should be on an S1 car.
Incidently it is very awkward to instal and really requires three people,two to manipulate the lid which has to be held more or less vertically to feed the hinges into their channels, and a third person inside the car to insert the hinge pins. The bolt mod probably makes fitting easier and gives scope for adjustment---but is heavier and as I said before I don't think it is original.

It is a hairpin type spring wound around the pin that the prop is pivoted on with a leg extending along the prop and curled around it at the end of the leg. This is all contained in a littlesheet steel "box" like a truncated pyramid with one face missing and another face cut away to allow the prop to swing through about 90 degrees. Perhaps I should sketch it and Chugga could make a batch!

I can just imagine you taking those pictures Ben, boot lid balanced on your head, trying to line the camera up without the lid coming down crushing your arms! or were you also using the broom handle approach?

It was the broom handle method Ade.
And sorry Tim---just sold the last one! And yes the head of the pivot pin is behind the number-plate light.
This makes an interesting diversion from getting my red Integrale back on its wheels after having the head off to install some new exhaust valves.Should be ready for a test run tomorrow.

thankyou all for the posts and info, i nipped down to Ron Francis's last night and picked up the remains of a bootlid as a pattern, ron was very oppolgetic about its condition but its got hinges AND A STAY!!! its absolutly ideal for what i need but now with the photo's you have all provided i can sort ot what i've actually got

Slightly different perspective, but a photo showing what I found when I removed the number plate. The bare area is immediately over the bracket for the stay and was caused by flexing in the bracket ie the paint cracked and then water got under the paint and started to rust.
Just thinking that if you are remaking the bootlid it may be worth adding a larger plate to spread the load
