I once convinced a man years and years ago, that the 5th cylinder in a Quattro was an 'idling cylinder'. It was a unique invention by the Germans. The idea was that in rallying, you could easily have a plug failure or drop a valve. then the 'idler piston' would kick in, and away you go. Bit like the spare coil seen in rally cars of old. He believed me.......
