Astura CYY 45
« on: 17 November, 2012, 05:43:52 PM »
Another exotic Astura is the Farina bodied car CYY 45 - see this photo taken at the Sliding Pillar Rally in 2002. At that time I think it was owned by Ron Francis. Where is it now I wonder?

No, Doug's Astura is CXT 596 distinguishable by the cyclops head light. I'll post a picture when I can find it!

Robin.

P.S. James, might you be a 'luck sod' one day who inherits his father's Astura?  ;)

So, did Doug's dad have another Astura as well as CXT 596 which Doug says was his father's from new and is in original condition? The oldest club register I have is 1969 and that lists Doug as owning CXT 596 and his father a Flaminia GT and a Ferrari GT. The '69 register doesn't list CYY 45.

Yes he did, i remember talking to my dad about this car whilst looking at it and he told me the history, i may be wrong about the from new bit if its the red car that was from new but dougs father definatly owned it, the cyclops car was fitted with a supercharger whilst dougs dad owned it and the green car was just standard, seemed to be the trend to own more than 1 in the "good old days" Eddie Gee had atleast 3 at 1 point  :o one of which is my fathers

I struggle to keep track of your pickup collection now - what's it going to be like in 50 years time :)

As I understand it, Astura CXT 596 is chassis 33-5142 and was UK registered 8th May 1936.  The engine was 91.539.  In 1952 it belonged to J G Crowther, and in 1967 to Douglas Crowther.  It is a 3rd Series open 4-seater.
Attached a photo of it in 2010 found on the web I think.

Astura CYY 45 is chassis 33-5272 and was UK registered 11th August 1936.  The engine was 91.1027.
In 1952 it belonged to J G Crowther and later to David Clayton and then Ron Francis.  It is a 3rd series short chassis with 4-door pillarless saloon body by Farina.
Attached a photo by Theo Jansen, also from ca. 2010.  I have a better one as a print, yet to scan.
