I replaced the CV joint boots on the Fulvia I'm reconditioning and couldn't figure a way to get the original strap (a continuous metal ring) back on so did what I've done for all other boots I've replaced and used a zip tie. When I put everything back together I saw that the zip tie was catching on the lower ball joint bolt so not turning properly. I've subsequently bought some metal straps and a tool for fitting them but even that catches on the ball joint. What does anyone use for them? Really struggling to figure how to fit anything! Difficult to get a decent picture but this shows how little space there is

Yours looks even tighter than mine.  I have managed to get metal straps in.  I suggest you use a cutting disc carefully to take the end off the bolt so as to increase the clearance (which I dimly remember I might have done).   This can be done without dismounting the balljoint.

Hi

I had a similar problem with the Beta. Some ball joints are longer than others for the same part nos with mine and the solution was the same, i.e. Cut of some of the threads, remembering to have a nut on it before doing it of course....

Omicron (and I suppose others) can supply a "flat" nylon cable tie. I have used a metal equivalent with success.

Thanks for the replies. After the nylon zip tie I tried metal ones which required crimping that also caught. I've looked into it more and found the sort that have more of a buckle type fastening that stays very flat so I've just ordered some which I hope might work out OK.

I looked at those but ended up buying these instead as they are a wider strip of metal which seemed like a good idea. Waiting for delivery now but it will be a week or two before I get chance to try them.

Edited to add that I've just searched further and found wider versions of the type you mentioned so might order some of these too and see what looks best
