Some signs go for crazy money now, pains me to think that every year we threw Michelin ones in the skip 
Is it a genuine item or a repro? That will determine if it's worth the money.
But, as ever, something is only ever worth what anyone is willing to pay.
People spend more on what others consider a waste of money, smokers for example I'm sure spend more every year!

I hear they're now around £10 for a pack of 40!
So a 40 a day habit is a huge amount of money!!
