Filler neck to tank seal
«

Finally got on my Fulvia on the road. I had had a leak at this point. My very good local garage bought FILLER NECK TO TANK SEAL £13.25 from the firm in Norfolk. However started leaking again within a couple of days. Garage taken it apart and says "I don’t think this seal is fit for purpose!! Unfortunately not right rubber!! It’s all sticky and swollen".
Any thoughts from anyone.

Go back to the supplier, if it’s the one I am thinking of I am sure they will rectify the issue.

the seal must have a square section (not round).

I'm with Andrea on that one.
In fact this is what it should look like finding a pic on a non-Norfolk company website:
https://www.pieces-fulvia.com/fuel-tank-gasket-lancia-fulvia-all-models.htm
I thought seals involving petrol were primarily made of nitrile these days. Looks like your garage has been sent a wrong seal altogether - profile and material - if it's going yucky and sticky!

I seem to remember I successfully made a square section seal for this joint by carefully cutting the larger end of a Fulvia top radiator hose.

I used the large seal from a S2 girling front brake caliper.

I tried this but the diameter is too small.

Go to Simply Bearings
https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/
and choose a suitable O ring from the huge selection. Unless yours is outlandishly thick you should be able to find one at far less cost.
Incidentally, an excellent firm for all sorts of bearing related things and very quick delivery.

You have been sent the incorrect seal.
If you go to the website of the 'firm in Norfolk', go to Fulvia parts, then engine parts, then filler neck seals then select the last option in the drop-down box which is 'neck to tank seal' you will see a picture of the correct square sectioned part.
