There was another Chelsea Rendezvous this morning, which I had almost forgotten about and failed to produce any advanced notice for which I apologise. There were about twenty lovely cars there including a Facel, a Pagani, an early Rolls a few Ferraris, Porches and Jags, and no less than four Lancias. The Lancias included the Lambdas of Anthony Dady and John Turner, David Bieda’s Flavia 2000HF and my Fulvia Sport. See photo of the latter three of these.
At these events there is an informal vote for the ‘car of the day’. I saw the list as I was leaving – there were about six cars with single votes and the only car with multiple votes was John Turner’s familiar Lambda, which had about eight votes! Very discerning people in Chelsea.

When is the next one???
I finally got my Aprilia out for a run. Have been held back by a combination of seasonally bad weather, kicking off the new build of a 4 car garage, and trying to get the tick tock car clock repaired. Regarding the latter this has taken over 3 weeks as every time I have had it returned to me from the aged clock man (in Clacton!) ticking awy merrily, it decided to stop immediately on refitting to the car. As you know the Aprilia dash board arrangement in not the best place to keep swopping in and out. Suffice to say that after a week on test I fitted it this morning - and it stopped and would not start again!!
So - what was OVS like to drive? Fantastic! I had fitted a small tacho so that I didnt over rev the engine and it would double as a secondary speedo. 70 is around 3800 rpm and there was a lot more after that but I had redlined at 4300 as per manual. With the shutters shut (for the first time) the temp gauge got to 80 (previously c50) and I had great fun chucking OVS around and belting pst all these moderns.

3 weeks? That's nothing! When I bought my present Augusta, I found the Metron clock would only work out of the car, where it kept perfect time. Put it in the car - and it stopped pretty well straight away. I sent it off to Richfields', who eventually admitted they'd lost it. That after many excuses and more than a year! I now have an electric one, which works perfectly, but isn't quite the same. Regards, John

I might just retro fit a jaeger transistor /electric movement I have. Why is that the clock stops in the car. If it wasnt such a pig to get to I would happily tink to see why...

Sounds like a new branch of s*d's law.
Maybe the next clock test is inside the car but not mounted?

My clock man got it ticking beautifully after he had demagnatised pallet stone what ever they are and some other parts that he found had a lot of magnetism. This has just given me the idea that the dash has possibly turned into a giant magnet - we will see but not for a few weeks as am flying off for a break and back just before the AGM - will bring OVS to that with a stop(ed) clock!

Ummm... same problem with the clock in the Dilambda. Had it repaired and it's not run properly since back in the car. Must take it out and see if it works then.

Further on the clock saga in my Aprilia. It stopped again on fitting to the car. Took it out and with a compass felt the clock itself had become magnetised again!!!
Eureka moment as I realised that the car had been fitted with a Lucas regulator bypassing the alternator's own, and it was in the instrument bay directly behind the clock.
I will relocate to dynamo area and see .....
