Delta S4 at Mondello Park Rallycross
« on: 04 September, 2012, 09:58:41 PM »
Now, I dont know how to post a link to this, but I've come across a utube clip titled 'Herbert Breitender Mondello Park R.I.P. 1953-2008'
I'm fairly certain the car in 3d position is an S4. I've never seen one in Ireland before.

Any ideas as to who was driving it, I've never seen one apart from the works cars. It looked a bit of a handful.

I enjoyed that too. If the race finished in that order then I think the S4 did well to stay in third place. If he had any reserve to use I guess he was wise to hold back rather than attempt to pass that Audi!

I saw the S4 on a flatbed truck, heading out of Dublin following a Mondello Park rallycross, en route to the Rosslare ferryport. It must have been in the early nineties. I think the driver was either German or Scandinavian. All the Group B cars were handfuls - isn't that why they were banned? Too much power on uncontrolled/poor surfaces. Surely even more of a challenge to control such a car on a rallycross circuit? But very entertaining to watch the skill of the pilots....!!!

It was probably Alemaki who campaigned a rallycross S4

As we're talking Delta S4 here, I purchased a French produced DVD (AH Video Concept Communications), simply entitled "Groupe B", while at Autosport International, featuring several privately entered S4s "en course de cote" "in Hillclimb" "zum Bergrennen" (Berg Cup).
The DVD covers the years 1989 to 2006 and is a very healthy 2 hours in duration.
The cover features all the usual Group B suspects, but luckily for us Lancia fans, the S4s feature heavily and an 037 rallye also appears briefly.
Thankfully there is no commentary, just those incredible supercharger and waste-gate noises.  ;D
One S4 is owned/driven by Bruno Ianniello and another by Sascha Geninasca and they're not pussyfooting around either!  ;D
I recommend you track down a copy, despite the continuity not being the best, e.g.. wet road, dry road, wet road, etc.
