Thema LX Turbo series 1. Electric seats.

I am trying to locate the fuses and relays controlling the adjustment of the front seats on my series1 LX Turbo. According to the owner handbook "when power-operated seats are fitted, three 30amp fuses and relays are located in the push-button panel for the left and right hand front/rear seats". There is no trace of these behind the panels alongside the seats where the control switches are housed or anywhere on the main fuse box under the n/s dash. I've also checked behind the heater control panel in the centre of the dash to no avail and under the plastic panel covering the heater fan on the scuttle.
Can anyone throw some light on this mystery?

I've got the workshop manual but not sure it will much help.

Thanks for your response blue boxer but I also have the workshop manual and at the bottom of the page it just says "the control switches and the relay are located on the external side of the seat. Each relay is protected by a 30 amp fuse". I wish!!
I've now completely remove the passenger seat (which still fully adjusts) but there are no relays/fuses to be found. Unfortunately because of my height the driver's side which has the u/s fore and aft adjustment is at 'max legroom' and as a result the rear fixings are covered by the sliding track.

Yes, I thought the workshop manual a bit light in info! Mine's got pencil notes on many pages obviously where the Lancia technician wrote things down that weren't explained in the manual for another day!

Do you have the electrically adjustable rear seat. If so, the manual says there is a central unit between the seats housing the relays. Maybe the front seat relays live in there as well? Probably not, but you never know.

It is only the front seats that are electrically controlled on my car. I've just checked inside the back section of plastic casing between the seats but that is empty!!

Hi ,

Not sure if same  issue-I had problem last year when passenger seat was pushed by motor to furthest back position and then refused to move-turned out problem not electrical but mechanical-Have spoken to Mechanic at Car Craft and story was as follows:-

1. relays for front seats under centre console. 2 relays supply seats and "something else"! These were found to be mildly corroded but cleaning did not help.

2. problem was mechanical-at furthest back seat position the 2 gears had come slightly out of mesh for the motor to catch-careful levering of gears with screwdriver moved them enough for seat motor to engage. since then have not put seat fully back!

Hi Colin, Thank you, that's very helpful and I will try the 'levering of the gears with a screwdriver' to see if that makes a difference. I am still baffled however by the fact that the relays/fuses on my car are not where they should be. Can you be more specific about where they are "under the centre console" on your car?

not unusual for fuses etc not to be where they are supposed to be, as my 2 x series 3's had the same problem with other fuses and relays that were supposed to be in the boot, turned out to be under the console.

Thanks Brian, I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and remove everything, including the radio this time from the centre console and have another look. But then there is the problem of things once disturbed miraculously not working once everything has been re-assembled!! There is also the danger of the age hardened 80's plastic deciding that it's time to shatter under duress. Oh well here go's.

If there's no fuses in the seats, could you not take a power supply from an ignition/relay controlled circuit such as the centre console switches for the rear windows. I retro fitted electric seats in a friends car and this is how I powered them. If nothing else, it will determine if the problem is a fuse or an issue with an electric motor.

Mike, that's a very good idea, many thanks! I was planning a trip to the garage this week anyway to try and get them to sort out the temperamental radio aerial  so I will ask if they can hook up a temporary feed as you suggest to the driver's seat while I'm there. Will report on any progress.
