I see there's a nice looking Artena at the H&H Auction at Rockingham Castle on the 18th, with a guideline price of £25k-£35k. Brian 8227

Thanks Don, I thought it looked a rather nice one I wonder what it might have fetched?. Brian 8227

It might not have been on the road for a long time, but I wouldn't have called it unknown. Here are a couple of pictures from Oulton Park in 1990.

Cant say I have ever seen an SU mounted on its side as the dash pot would loose all its oil. Looks highly suspect...

Certainly does, normally the dashpot relies on gravity for it it to return to its non running position as well (with the help of a spring I think from memory), but cannot be good having it rubbing against the lower part of the cover like that. Wonder if it results in rough running due to friction stopping it moving smoothly? Peter

A downdraught SU isn't all that unusual... I've got one (somewhere!) on an Aprilia manifold. There's a spring in there as well.
What looks odd to me is the two types of front door hinge.
I like the number plate being in letter sections.
What's that enormous bolt head / rivet head just behind the folded hood? (image 15)

Hi David I bow to your greater knowledge, is the dashpot engineered differently, ie how do you fill it with oil for a start? Peter

I stand corrected as well, but obviously SU did evolve thne to more upright on basis of worn out slide on one side??!!
