No news yet. Things are moving rather slowly at the moment on the Lancia. Slightly bad planning as our other cars are open and the weather is getting cold. What am I saying? If there was any planning involved, the Lancia did it, not us.

Had new rods made for my s.2B20 two liter motor - the originals were a bit thin and have a reputation for failing at high RPM. Had them made in Calif, and while they were much stronger, they were a bit heavier. However, the conversion to thin shell bearings eliminated the bronze shells, and so the overall weight difference wasn't much - something like 25 gms.
The trick was that the center of gravity of the weight shifted further up the conrod, and more importantly was a change in the split between that portion allocated to reciprocating weight (around the big end) and that allocated as reciprocating weight. As such, a new balancing weight was derived for use on the crank, rebalanced accordingly. Still smooth as can be.
Balance on the V4 is a bit trickier as there are still unknowns here in what is the proper formula, but the basic issue is the same: that the balancing weight used for the original crank is done with an assumption of the original piston/pin/rod, etc., and where that weight is roughly placed. Change any part of that, and some refiguring is needed.
