If it is a Lusso, so, square instruments and the vent at the back of the bonnet, it should have running boards.

What does the id plate say ? Often the Lusso's are marked with an "L" after (I think) the model number ie 38 or 238 L

There once was a time when most of the Aprilias one might have come across would have been devoid of running boards, be they Lusso or not. Running boards were seen as a hang-over from an earlier period and best dispensed with! The photo shows my 1939 Lusso in 1968.
Also to mention that the air-scoop at the rear of the bonnet on a Lusso was a clever way to provide a goodly measure of rain water to collect there, so as to dollop on the legs of either driver or passenger, depending on the direction of hard cornering.

Do Aprils without running boards suffer from gravel rash chipping the paint on the sills, doors and leading face of the rear arches? if so then I'd say sod the originality and fit the running boards!

David, I think it was just a blocked drain, but it did take me a time to get round to fixing it. I don’t remember not having a heater being much of a problem and I do recall some very severe winters. Similarly, not having screen washers wasn’t a problem either – a ‘squeezy bottle’ with screen-wash that could be squirted sideways through the driver’s window seemed to work OK. As to the ladies, well there was only one and she was a capable Aprilia driver, amongst her other endearing qualities.

Who said anything about getting out of the car to do it? Using a squeezy bottle with an angled spout it was quite easy to spray the screen round the driver's open window while on the move - just a bit draughty!

Hi Tim, there are programmes you can use to place a final bid above everyone else's, or place 2/3 bids up to your max, usually works, can only assume some one went and viewed and was quite taken by it! P |

If you bid on something it invites you to put in your maximum bid. It won't actually log that maximum, just one bid above the next highest bid. The winner of this auction might have put in a maximum bid of £5,000 and someone else bid £3,595 in the dying moments of the auction. E-bay will then immediately counter with a bid of £3,600 and the £3,595 bidder is out of time to up their bid. If you are serious about winning something you put in the maximum you can sensibly pay and leave e-bay to it. It also saves you from getting carried away and bidding far too much, as I know to my cost!

Am well aware of the bidding tools, but in this case I don't think there was a counterbid. The final 'buyer' had the highest bid at 5,500 then upped his bid to 6,300 with seconds to go. I could be wrong, but.....
