Hi

Whilst on the subject of modern fuel, given the relative low mileages and the apparent differences in mixtures between standard petrol and the premium brands, should the suggestion be to just go for the premium brand every time and would this help?

my understanding is that the fuel comes from the local refinery, with the major refineries serving their local areas - Fawley South, Grangemouth scotland etc, the only difference between the brands is additives, so if you want less gumming which is caused by additives then the more premium the brand the bigger the problem! The additives work by "washing" away deposits historic car problems often caused by evaporation of fuel when car unused, so either run your car more freqently with premium petrol to clean it through or buy the cheapest most basic supermarket fuel if you are going to it it sit there and evaporate.
