On behalf of my mate Simon, I am pleased to post the following message:

After our last Rendezvous in 2017, we are holding our first of 2018 on Sunday 11th March.

All the Rendezvous see a fine turnout of Lancias: Flaminia convertible and Zagato Sport coupe, Fulvias and of course the fabulous Steady Special Astura (pictured below), inspired by Ronald 'Steady' Barker; we would like to invite more Lancias to join us on Sunday March 11th at Chesham Gardens, Chesham Place, London SW1X 8HQ, opposite the Hari Hotel.

As well as a great place to see fabulous cars, it is also a great way to take your partner into town - the shopping havens of Harrods, Beauchamp Place etc are all walking distance.

But we need more Lancias!

If the location and perhaps your assumption that it will be all posh moneyed folks swanning about, you could not be more mistaken. We warmly welcome the most down-to-earth people and their cars - even some Fiats...!

The 96 Club is the best club that you don't have to join! You DO NOT have to be a member to attend the breakfast rendezvous - just come along with your car and drop a fiver in the box to cover food etc costs.

I will personally cook you a bacon or sausage roll and serve you unlimited coffee and croissants etc.

Please visit the website at: 96club.co.uk

Great event, if I wasn't laid up after an operation I'd be there.
I'll probably miss April as well, but as soon as I can 'Fay' and myself will be heading that way, as Colin says, more Lancias please.

Out of interest, how does LEZ affect driving an old car through London?

This event is on my tick list but unfortunately it seems to coincide with other plans, which is the case in March.

No need to worry! The LEZ conditions are set out here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emission-zone/check-if-your-vehicle-is-affected. This includes: "The LEZ does not apply to cars or motorcycles". Even if you are planning to come in your Lancia Horsebox, you will be OK if it was first built before January 1973.

Very enjoyable and  relaxed get together - usually with good Lancia representation!

Colin,
for those who have competing Sunday morning commitments, how late can one arrive, and how long do you think people are likely to stay for?

It starts early, but cars and people are still arriving up to about 11.00 am, when it is usually all a buzz and the bacon-rolls and coffee are still going strong, and then it's all closing down by about 12:30, and probably all gone by about 01:00 pm. Quality time though!

I took the Aprilia to this today and it was indeed a very enjoyable gathering, people attending being both friendly and interesting, and bringing a good variety of cars. Lancia was the number one make: Justin McArdle brought his 2000HF, looking very smart, and there was a very well-presented series 2 Fulvia 1.3s. My favourites were however the very scruffy Fulvia Berlina that Simon Duval Smith, one of the organisers, uses as his everyday car, and a splendid 508S Fiat of which I would post a photo if I weren't too backward to know how to.

These gatherings take place every month, always at Chesham Place, the next being 8th April, and dates are on the 96 club web site.

Thanks to Colin for the recommendation.

Sorry to say, I wasn’t at this event yesterday because of other grandparental priorities, but Simon has written the following report, which echoes what Cesare has posted. Sounds like a good day!
Colin

Lancia was once again the dominant marque at the 96 Club Rendezvous in Belgravia where a record turnout for the first Rendezvous of the year saw a first-time visitor, Cesare Ferrari in his lovely First Series Aprilia, joining Justin McArdle's fabulous Flavia 2000HF coupe and Clive Snowden's Fulvia 2/3, with its recently rebuilt engine sounding very sweet. My trusty and rusty Fulvia saloon completed a Lancia line-up which was complemented by a very sweet 1935 Fiat Balilla 508 Sport Spider, an Alfa Romeo GTC, a Bristol 405 drophead and various Jaguars, Ferraris, Bentleys and many other marques. Cesare’s Aprilia's colour is nicknamed St Patrick's blue as the car was built on 17 March 1938!

These gatherings take place every month, always at Chesham Place, the next being 8th April, and dates are on the 96 club web site.

Thank you for the kind words Cesare, and thank you for coming - see at the next one I hope!? (More pictures will be on the 96 Club site very soon).

Simon
