In fairness, the listing does say open to offers. Suspect he'll need someone knowledgable to inspect the car and give an appraisal? I'm not familiar with Beta Saloons or Trevis. Two models I never had..

The vendor is of course open to offers but I was thinking that if the "buy it now" price is indicative of his expectations he may be a bit disappointed. Having said which I consider a perfect interior to be a highly prized item especially when it's something that isn't common.

The SWVA car has been on the market for some time now at £5,000; the auction estimate of £3,000-3,500 seems a more realistic figure ... which in turn suggests the eBay car's £2,500 price is somewhat optimistic.

Brian, My 2C : You are not subject to the ULEZ My 2000HF : From 8 April 2019 if you travel in the ULEZ you will need to pay the daily ULEZ charge. This is because your vehicle does not meet the ULEZ standards. However, it also states, "All vehicles that have a 'historic' vehicle tax class will be exempt from the ULEZ." Brian - something like a 2C might just be the sort of thing I'm looking at for a "daily driver". I'm hoping others will look at the problem the same way and we'll see a lot more "historics" on the road. The debate here (domestically) is "you can't throw money at that 1987 Mercedes you've been running the last 14 years as it will soon be banned". It won't actually be BANNED but its something like £12:50 a day which is ok against renting a van or a big car for a trip but makes school runs and popping to the shops a no-no. Something I haven't got to the bottom of (Justin?) is if its a "5 day a week" zone or if it includes the weekends. If "old smokey" becomes a "weekends OR £12 per day" then can that helps with keeping it. The obvious option - what the policy is pushing us towards - is to trade it for something more modern. Did that in 2012 with a BMW Touring (managed to keep the MB as "dad's workhorse", its now "family car" again) which we sold last year rather than fixing the gearbox. (Not a cheap car to run at all...) MUCH more fun is to look to 1976 and earlier...perhaps a Flavia Jolly is "a sensible option"  Not going to get away with that, but she's been in a 2C and we came close to buying one. It could do nearly all the "family car" work and rent (or the "weekend" MB) for the times it didn't. |

David,
the ultra low emission zone will have the same boundaries as the congestion charge area. As a suburbanite I find myself avoiding driving in that part of London now anyway, the traffic congestion removing most of the fun of journeys I used to make regularly. Perhaps from where you are you find yourself crossing the zone to get to other parts of town, which is not the case coming from the west where I live. Thus I see no reason not to continue to spend money keeping my 300TD going for mundane purposes. Having said that I would envy you enormously if you turn to a Fulvia berlina for daily use, which is what I would do anyway if I had a convenient second garage space.

My issue is if the congestion charge zone is expanded - proposed for 2021 but looks very likely and there's talk of it being even earlier once the consultation closes. There's also talk of taking it to the M25.
We are now consulting on detailed proposals for two further initiatives to improve London’s air. These involve:
Tightening the standards of the existing London-wide Low Emission Zone from 2020, which affects heavy vehicles – buses, coaches and HGVs and other heavy specialist vehicles
Expanding the ULEZ for light vehicles (cars, vans and motorcycles) from central London to inner London up to, but not including the North and South Circular roads in 2021 so that all vehicles in this area are subject to emissions standards

David, if you were thinking of goiing to a Fulvia Berlina as a daily driver I'd suggest looking at a series 2 as there's more of them, they have the 1298cc engine and the five speed gearbox, usually they are also cheaper than series 1's. Brian Edwards used to use a series 2 as a daily driver and said it was ideal. Brian 8227 |
