Can I draw your attention to my Spares Wanted appeal for a good sub-frame? Simon in France has very helpfully found me one, which is great, but it is a very long way away. Many thanks. Martin

Whereabouts in France is it? Maybe someone could help with transport - I'm in Brittany at the end of May for example.

He's close to Bezier, Narbonne. Almost on the med just up from the boarder with spain. He's got a holiday let advertised in the back of Viva - make a week of it

Helpful suggestions - many thanks - but the sub-frame Simon knows about is materially south and east of where he is, so just under a 1000 miles from home.
But who knows, I might have to make a week of it. Martin

Search on ebay for item 153000027875 ... an apparently sound subframe is up for grabs.

Crikey. Is that really the going price for a good subframe? Chris

That's just what I thought Chris! At that price you could probably get one custom made and galvanised!

Hi there Am thinking of (at some point pennies permitting), getting the Fulvia sub-frame out and cleaned-up and Galvanised I've a sneaking suspicion it will distort it - however really don't know Any thoughts??? Ta Simon

Don't know about galvanising (though I do not see why it should distort it, it is only dipping in molten zinc - 420C). I had mine shot blasted and painted and then filled it with wax and it is still looking good. The shot blasting did not do it any harm.

My experience with Fulvia subframes over the years is to be aware of the possibility of quite severe corrosion in the parts you cannot see whilst its in the car, never mind what you can see from underneath! I can remember seeing quite severe corrosion in late Fulvia subframes (never mind the rear subframe mounts in the footwells) back in the early 80's so they wouldn't have been much over 10 years old. They are a bit older now. If you are going to keep the car then its definitely worth having a really good look at it, preferably with the body lifted off. Chris

To side track, this issue applies to modern Italian cars too, my Maserati 4200 suffered from this failing, front and rear, cost a small fortune to correct, car was about 9yrs old!
