looking at the wheels and tyres on your car I have a similar set for my project car are the tyres 155/70 SR 13s?

Yes, that's the size mate  Handily the car came with a near new set of Pirelli tyres, not such a popular size anymore, everything is at least 2" bigger diameter! |

I'd pressure washed under the bonnet last time out to clean the remains of the oil leak which had made a right mess. Stupidly though I'd got some water in the alternator which despite the tried and tested method of leaving it to see if it cured itself the charge warning light remained sure that all wasn't well. Putting the volt meter on to see if it was charging or just a gremlin in the wiring made me switch it off quick though, charging at over 18volts that's dangerous territory for having a battery explode.. |

As the alternator is fairly easy to get off I thought I'd have a go at changing the voltage regulator, never actually taken one apart before, looked the simplest of tasks..

Once the plastic rear cover was off it simply needed the two retaining screws taking out and the new voltage regulator fitting on, less than £15 and all working well again, charge rate perfect at around 14.3v. Result!
Car now sits awaiting a trip to the mot station, maybe next week or so..
Even though my integrale is now on the road I'm really looking forward to trying the Y10, it's been 20 years or more since I've driven one.

Great fun fixing old cars for the price of a burger and a couple of pints...I must get on with my projects but the old war wound (aka a hernia) is playing up again and Matron says I should go back to the doctor and get it sorted (3rd time lucky) We are off to Cornwall for a week on Friday so I am resisting getting under any old cars till after I get back.

It is a nice dilemma to have Brian, planning on it being the integrale after the magazine thread, Y10 not a bad back up car though. Be nice to give the Y10 a run out back down to help Richard dig that Berlina out if it's still planned... Show that the car is still alive and well |

Well the mot went kind of OK. Failed on a couple of bits, CO level too high and the nsr foot and handbrake pretty much doing nothing.
Advisory on split rubber boot on the osf bottom ball joint.
Not a disaster by any means.
Had a cambelt to do on my mates Alfa Giulietta yesterday afternoon so left the Y10 repairs until this morning..

CO level would be just a case of adjusting the mixture screw at the air flow meter once back at the test station.
The rear brakes had a siezed wheel cylinder and a faulty lever for the handbrake, partly siezed but also worn. Nothing the welder and copper grease couldn't sort. The wheel cylinder got stripped, cleaned and greased as I couldn't get a new one quickly.
Back to the garage this afternoon for a retest, emissions sorted with the twiddle of a screwdriver.
Then into the brake rollers and damn and blast the peddle goes to the floor!
Back on the lift it appeared the brake compensator had burst.

Back at my unit the compensator came off without too much drama, thankfully no broken bolts. The cause of the failure though was a brake pipe completely out of sight that had been chafing, really lucky that it burst when it did and not whilst going down the road!

As I will now wait until next week or later to retest the car I've ordered some parts up, new wheel cylinder, new compensator whilst it's off, also I've taken the front hub off to press the ball joint out seeing as I already bought a joint, which I'd forgot about!

Yes, extremely lucky that it burst on the brake rollers, could have been a disaster had it happened on the road.
Got a few new bits arrived today for the repairs, the inspiration from seeing the cars at the AGM has spurred me on.
Even decided the little brackets for the new front anti roll bar bushes out to be cleaned of rust and painted, hope it doesn't get obsessive!
