Looks pretty good for £700! But may not be as good as pics after being outdoors?

No connection to the seller.

£3K is a bit steep for a project Beta at present I would say. Some will be put off by the auto box too.....

Is a conversion to manual a viable proposition I wonder?

Hi

Depends what you mean viable...... if you have to buy the parts, then possibly not. If you already have the parts and have a go yourself, then should be straight forward if not time consuming.

Personally I think the original £2k price was sort of realistic, even then given it needs a respray after any bodywork, still not a cheap project given that a nice on the road manual would be £5-£8k

Is the Auto in the Beta that bad that it needs changing?
I also don't understand if all the jobs are so insignificant why the current owner doesn't do them himself, or perhaps there not as insignificant as he makes out! .

The auto box is fine. Some were unreliable when new, like many things in the 1970's, but the survivors tend to be OK. It just isn't what some people want in a sporting car. I test drove an auto Coupe in the 90's and it was great to drive.

Wasn't the auto box from another manufacturer? I have a faint recollection of it being BMC or something similar and not a very wonderful job. I have driven extensively in Mercedes and Toyota with auto boxes which were really good, changing gear just when you expected whilst cruising and with suitably energetic performance on kick down.

I seem to remember it was AP.

I second Neil’s comment re the auto. Personally I have had autos since mid 80s as everyday car, but would not really want a car like the HPE which would be for occasional driving as an auto, much less feeling of being part of it I always think.

I should have remembered it was AP seeing as the founder's grandson was my best mate at school.
