Could the rattle be timing chain flutter or something related as worn? Where do you get new sprockets.?
Its not the winning but taking part! or is it taking apart?

Simon.  Bore diameter is 79.37mm. Some years ago a gudgeon pin circlip escaped and came up through the top of a piston! A new piston was required and Morris Parry researched his files and came up with a near match from a 1961 1.6 Ford Orion diesel engine! I picked up a set of four O/E on Ebay and with minimal modification they fitted and have been performing OK since. If I'm honest I would like to have the engined re-bored and a new set of pistons made. Eight of them and  expensive I guess.

Tim. Timing chain and sprocket wear is a real possibility and again as with the pistons if money were no object I would have new chains and sprockets. Dread to think what that would cost! The go to people are R M Fowler Ltd

You might be lucky enough to find some of the right size yet.   Do be sure that they weigh the same as the originals of course, narrow Vengines are notoriously difficult to balance (see Lambda technical information thread).
