Rocker cover gasket
«

Hi all,
Although I've had my 1968 Lancia fulvia for about twenty years this is my first post!
I am thinking about changing the rocker cover gasket on the fulvia as I am getting oil
on the spark plugs... is this an easy job to do? I've looked at it online and it seem simple enough.
However I dont want to try it and make things worse on the car!!
Hope you can help
Kind regards
Colin

Hello and welcome to the forum. Oil on the spark plugs is due to the "spectacle" gaskets failing. These should be bought at the same time as a rocker gasket. I always recommend putting these in clean and dry meaning the both the rocker cover and mating surfaces on the head should be free of oil. Avoid using silicon sealant.

Thanks so much for your speedy reply! I was looking at the gaskets online and was wondering what the other gaskets were as they were part of the set.. I shall make sure I clean it all down.. on one youtube clip I watched it suggested a drop of superglue to keep the gaskets from moving.. is this ok?

Make sure you don't disturb the half moon shaped seals at the front as they could drop down the side of the timing chain.
Don't use anything to hold the gaskets in place as Lancia Lulu said.

That is a good trick!! only on the outer, and use fingers and mirror to ensure the lower part has not snuck in.

And remember to not overtighten the rocker cover bolts.
