Have you checked if the ball joint is still functioning or is loose. The only way to check quickly is to restrain the spring. If the ball is OK I would just replace the rubber boot available from Omicron.
Other wise it is a suspension dismantle as the joint is pressed in the top arm and not possible IMHO todoin situ. The club has a tool to withdraw the joint but you need a press for a new one.

Not sure if this is a top or bottom ball joint, but I have come across it when looking for those cv joints. It is unused and now surplus from my previous Fulvia project. It is the type which has a threaded hole for a grease nipple. Richard

What is the easiest way to restrain the spring?

Omicron sell or at least used to sell a tool that restrains the front spring.

How about two pieces of metal drilled to use threaded rods and nuts as a spring clamp, which maybe would need an adapter to fit whatever crossmember there is. Or does this only work with Fulvias? Richard

The guys in Norfolk don't hire this tool - so does anyone have an image of a tool they have made to clamp the spring? Mark

and this is the metal bar that you need to bolt onto the spring housing so that you have enough metal extending to hand the red tool onto to keep the spring held up.

Unfortunately, on the 2000 Coupe the spring housing does not protrude sufficiently to allow anything to rest or be bolted onto it. So I think that tool wont be able to be used.

Brian that is the correct tool. I have similar. You are correct that the Flavia and S1 Fulvia do not have any spring housing to speak of which is what the “20x40”mm bar persorms.
