1971 Fulvia S2 1.3s fast road spec

Just had a great run around Herefordshire into Monmouthshire using B roads. Little traffic great scenery and a raspy Fulvia. Since my purchase back in October I have averaged 600 kms a month just love driving this car a testament to the love and care the late Stan Sweet put into it.

It's great getting out in your Lancia in the winter. I find that most cars don't respond well to long lay ups and if you have historic road tax status tax/SORN isn't an issue. I just make sure that the roads have not been gritted before I go out.

Back in the days when we used to have winter snow in the SE of England.......and modern cars were all going down the route of wide low profile tyres, i used to look forward to driving up Egham Hill in the snow in our Fulvia Sedan flying past all the other slipping and sliding moderns!

I'm using mine whenever there is a dry day and no salt on the road, helps to keep everything running and as it isn't currently stored in a garage should help to ensure it keeps nice and moisture free.

During the Snow in December my Fulvia performed faultlessly on a run out in the Forest of Dean tyre choice is a great help.

I run 175/65/14 forest tyres maxsport and during the last snow fall my little Fulvia out performed a lot of modern stuff and put a big smile on my face.

Totally agree I am out frequently using my Fulvia just need to sort the heater as now I am 60 years of age I would benefit from some warm air in the cabin.

Back in the late 1970s I had my S2 (MAX 611P) when I worked in Aberdeen. I used to drive it in lots of snow in the Dee valley area on its standard Pirelli Cinturatos and it was excellent. I never got it stuck.

💯 % agreed, the tyres Lancia fitted either the Pirelli Cinturato on the 1.2 and 1.3 cars and on the HF cars the Michelin XAS. I remember in the early 80’s getting rid of the Michelin XAS tyres on my Lusso HF for modern 195/60/14’s looking back that was a mistake.

I tend to be more fair weather (having a Beta for 30 years has made me this way), but I've found some pics online of my Fulvia's previous life as a rally car. I think this was the classic Monte Carlo in 2009.

What I nice photo. The car looks very much at home.

As a contrast I had a BMW X5 for quite a few years. It was absolutely terrible in the snow. It could go up hills reasonably well, but going down hills usually needed the automatic descent feature to be activated if I wanted to get to the bottom without collision with the scenery. Ridiculously wide tyres and a heavy car was not a good combination.

Exactly what the Fulvia was designed four and just as happy on a lovely jaunt through the countryside great picture and history for your HF.

You might find this thread useful. I haven’t got around to sorting mine out yet as it’s going to be quite a big job, but would be interested to hear how you get on.

Thanks just been reading through this thread. I remember when I had my 1600 HF Lusso back in 82 and it was only a 10 year old car and even then the heater was pretty mediocre. I know the present owner is looking at replacing the matrix to get some warmth.
