Hi David, here's a photo of the dynamo clamping nut. You need to loosen the rod with the wedge on the end and remove it.

Many thanks for the picture, i extracted the wedge and then the Alternator.  will update once its inspected/repaired

You will have to losen the clamp right  off and take the pulley wheel off  the dynamo/ alternator
and extract the dynamo/ alternator out from back towards the gearbox

Update on the Alternator. J Morgan and sons turned it round quickly, there was apparently a fault in the diode. I refitted it over the weekend and all is now back to normal and the B20 is running well again. So the odd fault with the ignition warning light was entirely down to the Alternator fault… thanks for all the advice!

You shouldn't have removed the split pin. It is there to help retract the wedge and is why the hollow bolt is so long.
When you replace the wedge and bolt do not overtighten it, just nip it up firmly.

....further to my previous reply, there should also be a washer under the spilt pin. Next time you have to remove the generator, just keep on undoing the elongated nut and it will retract the wedge.
