Motoring Section FRONT PAGE!

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT

Article by Paul Hudson on the new Delta on the whole a positive review even though the "R" word is memtioned, will we ever get any jounalist writing without harking back to this?

On page 2 one Andrew Everett writes a scathing piece headlined TIME TO LET GO saying in essence FIAT should drop Lancia altogether.  But he says "what really sounded the death knell for Lancia was the advent of the Delta in 1980, a horribly rot-prone reskin of the unremarkable Fiat Strada."  I seem to remember when it was launched the Delta had the best rust protection of any european car developed in conjuntion with SAAB or does my memory fail me?

The Telegraph invites you to have your say at www.telegraph.co.uk I hope all active forum users respond!

Just posted my comments but they obviously don't like what I said as my comments will be posted, after they have been moderated by them, hey ho for censorship! should be interesting to see if they bear any relationship to what I posted.

What typically biased anti Lancia  British automotive journalism that is really only sensational crap. The only part he got right was the excellent cars built and designed in the 50s and 60s , which he compared to BMW as niche high quality products.Funny how he forgot the pre war Lancias which were comparable and every bit on par with Mercedes Benz.
His lack of knowlege and poor memory also extends to the omission of Lancias racing sucess frompre war to  the Mile Miglia to the D50s, oops he  forgot to mention the 11 world Rally Championships and the fact that the Delta Integrales are and will be a legend for evermore. No mention of the technology of the S4 and 037 track and rally success.
Most manufacturers have been "down" and come back ,look at Maserati and Fiat  currently. Sure Lancia and Fiat produced several lemons in the 80s along with many other manufacturers. Autocar did a retrospective on the Delta (original 2wd) onthe back page of last weeks mag and were very complimentary in every way about it  saying it was more a modern and a better design than its contemporaries.
No Mr so called journalist, you just don't get it do you??? Lancia represents over a 100 years of heritage and design that is a priceless asset to the Fiat group and which all Lancisti fervently hope will be wisely used to secure the famous Lancia name long into the future.

Being positive, the main feature is a great front page splash and reads well. As a potential buyer it would make me want to know more. Also the pics have been well chosen and show the new car in its best light.

The review of the Delta must be the most positive I have read yet  Smiley

As for the Andrew Everett article, this shows how little he truely knows about the marque!  I too have posted my comments.

Despite all our comments it seems little is getting posted up - perhaps Everitt is getting too much of a kicking?  Ill informed tosh, but the driving impressions which precede it are the most positive I've seen in the UK - even more so than those in Car.

The review of the New Delta has been withdrawn & is no longer available, neither have anymore postings been added, only the original two that were there when I posted nearly 12 hours ago;  perhaps someone has realised what a load of horse manure this man has put out.

Yes, a very positive review for the Delta... which is nice to read.

But oh dear... I suspect that this chap has not driven any of the cars he's slating, and seems (as another already mentioned) entirely ignorant of the motorsport success enjoyed by Lancia in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

I know it's biased on my part but calling a Prisma an Orion... well, firstly the Orion was actually not a bad car to drive or own... especially in 1.6i Ghia guise, but the Prisma is a lovely thing indeed, and I'd challenge anyone to drive a good one and then mock it.

Feels like lazy journalism... and as for the comments, the bloke who said that the engine fell out and then he bought a Capri... yep, of course it did.

Still only 2 postings shown!

The actual road test is very fair, although I was unaware that Lancia brought in any 2nd series Deltas before pulling out of the RHD market as stated Huh?

Tried to Google this Mark Everett to see who he is but he doesn't show up.
