S2 fulvia sedan rear shock absorber top mount

Hello, I recently ordered a pair of Koni rear shock absorbers for an s2 sedan.
Is anyone aware that the top mounting is narrower than the coupe?
I need to shave 4mm off the metal tube that sits inside the rubber bush to get them in the mount.
Koni thinks this shouldn't be necessary.
Any help gratefully received.
