Hi all, Can anyone explain the total absence of any timing marks on the flywheel of my South African built S1 fulvia coupe? When I changed the timing chain recently I had to resort to feeling for TDC with a screwdriver down the spark plug hole! There is normally a "stepped" part in front of the ring gear with the marks on but mine appears to be flush.

Mine is an S1 and it has no timing marks - just a blob of yellow paint. I think all S1's were like that ?

Series 1 Fulvias have a timing mark on a tooth of the flywheel which looks like an O. To time the engine you line this up with the 1|4 mark on the crankcase next to the aperture. For ignition timing you line the mark up with A|A mark on the crankcase.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately My garage is full of another project so I will have to wait for some daylight and see if it ever stops raining long enough for me to have another look!

just in case someone stumbles across this thread
The earliest Fulvias has a very small "p" stamped onto a tooth on the flywheel.
-at least my 66 coupe has.
This "p" is hardly noticeable, and it is often covered in oil, dirt and grime.
