I have been driving my fulvia for a couple of months now and while quite happy with it's performance I find there is one thing missing which is vital in any Italian car, I cant hear the engine!  I am not a 'boy racer' but I do like to hear the carbs working and a nice snarl from the exhaust but in standard form it is very muted.  On the intake side I have fitted a cone filter to the airbox snout and removed the bathtub plate from inside which shrouded the carb inlets and presumably acted as a flame trap.  For the exhaust I am thinking of replacing the back box with a straight pipe, anyone done this and found it acceptable for street use?  One last thing, I have the PHH E3 carbs fitted which have a 115 main jet, in light of the mods mentioned above would it be a good idea to go up to 120 as fitted to the earlier carbs.  Any thoughts from fulvia engine guru's much appreciated.

i suggest a 'straight pipe' may be too loud, perhaps a less efficient rear silencer would provide a nice snarl.i usually visit my local exhaust centre in maidstone who have a large selection to look through and can also modify to fit if reqd.

Seel out some inlet trumpets and fit piper X socks or similar. The noise is superb and will drown out and silencer mods. I have done this to my 1600HF and is amazing. I fed the oil breather pipe after narrowing the section into No3 cylinder sock! You can see these trumpets on ebay or www.spitline.com (I think).

You will need to buy the kit with the back plate so the carb support is still used or you will suffer a rubber gasket failure.

See Angleorange's posts on his fulvia side exhaust.

I have considered longer ram pipes and think that 1.5 inch SU trumpets will be close enough and fairly cheap Grin For the exhaust I think I will experiment with a free flow box and try not to be to antisocial.
