I saw Ian Conway at the weekend (we had a good look through his spares and he really hasn't got a head he forgot about) and we were both amazed that the spares situation has got to the point where cars are off the road "for the want".

As a Plan-B perhaps have a go at the 1300 class...?

Brucie and David,

I’ll pass this on the Ken – I am sure he will be grateful. In fact there are two or three possibilities that he is exploring as a result of the appeal on this Forum. Just shows how useful the Forum can be.

The German one on eBay is described first as a 1.6. If this means it is from an early 1.6 HF then maybe that explains the high price - but let’s see if anyone bids for it!

I would expect that it is from an S2, it looks like it is missing an identification stamp that is on the S1 heads.

My Italian is poor, but this may be another option:

Bablefish traslates cut text or (I just noticed) a whole page.

http://66.196.80.202/babelfish/translate_url_content?.intl=us&lp=it_en&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subito.it%2Ftestata-lancia-hf-1600-frosinone-9789433.htm

It struggles with spinterogeno

An online dictionary has it as "ignition coil" - but google images show distributers.

Putting the Italian Wiki page for a spintero through bablefish yeilds this:

http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fit.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSpinterogeno&lp=it_en&btnTrUrl=Translate

Is it just me or does anyone else enjoy mistranslations?   This one tells us about the "disruptive electrical workers" and how this system was used "before the introduction of the electronic telephone exchanges".   At least as long as you have a "coil for candle" you should be ok...

"to right the depressore of regulation of the advance payment"

Which begs the question if we would have avoided the credit crisis if cars had stayed on points ignition rather than all this computerised stuff they have now.

Must admit it keeps the brain sharp working out what the translation actually intended to convey!

Ed Levin in the USA offers this reference the translation.
Mostly it’s pretty obvious (even more obvious if you can speak ‘automotive Italian’…), but:

ho disponibile una testata lancia hf numero di serie 818540
- ho anche 4 bielle e pistoni
- uno spinterogeno
- carburatori solex 42
albero motore
contattatemi via email

I am selling a cylinder head for a Lancia HF, series type 818.540

-- I also have 4 con rods and pistons

-- a distributor

-- Solex 42 carburetors

-- crankshaft

contact me by e-mail

Regards,

Ed
