The funny thing is that Astura was once owned by an LMC member by the name of Michael Scott who in the 1960s had the car restored by PininFarinia and it was subsequently sold on to Eric Clapton.
Michael Scott is very much still around and is about to have his life-membership of the LMC recognised and reactivated so that we all might enjoy more recent things that he has been up to.

Michael Scott's article on the restoration of this car is in the Summer 1966 copy of the LMC Journal. ( I will see if I can scan it so you can all read it)

FABULOUS!!
A really lovely "grown up" car in contrast to most one-offs.
Now the mystery...why does the passenger door have TWO window winders???

Lovely car. The window winder is obviously typical Lancia over-engineering. One handle winds the window down, and the other... up...!

Here's the article from the Summer 1966 LMC Journal. I think it has two window winders because the door windows are actually in two parts, a large front section, then a smaller rear section.
Thanks Colin, What a great story. and what an offer Brian 8227

not sure why Pininfarina de-accessioned it from their collection. Does anyone know the story?
Sort of sorry to see it making the commercial rounds - such a wonderful car.

Its swings and rounderbouts... If it wasn't out in the commercial world I wouldn't have got to hear about it, and magasine articles tend to preview auction appearances as well. However its such a wonderful object and to me that museum IS the right place to look after it.

Brian,
It’s not me to thank for the article – it was posted by Sliding Pillar. And I am grateful for it too!
GG,
I don’t think this car was ever ‘de-accessioned’ by PininFarina – it’s just that it was in private hands, as most of these cars would have been in that period and it went back into private ownership.
But isn’t it a good story!
