Ardea S2: I have an oil leak from the diff where it is coupled to the propshaft. Any idea on whether there should be an oil seal on the diff and its dimensions? Is it the same as on the Aprilia?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

myself and dad have just rebuild the rear axle on the ardea pickup, this is basically a floorpan aprilia back axle , most of the componants are the same as or similar to irs aprilia parts around the diff however the front oil seal and bearing arn't, anyway ron francis loaned me a standard ardea rear axle to compare and its alot smaller than aprilia so i think the likely hood of them being the same seal is slim, all the seals we bought off the shelf and were standard metric, i think its probably easier if you remove the seal and get it matched then re assemble, i wouldnt rely on buying a seal on someones advice either because as i understand it there are 2 different rear axles on ardea's ( please dont qoute me as i'm no expert!!) so the seals may be different between them  Huh? , the only major factor in your favour is most seals and bearings in lancia's this age are fairly standard so hopefully you shouldn't have any trouble getting one, if you do get problems let me know and if i can help i'll phone my suplier for you, hope all goes well james

I have exactly the same issue on my aprilia but have never fancied dismantling the diff.I guessed there would be an oil seal in there somewhere but you cannot easily make this out from the parts book diagrams.Anyone ever tackled this job?. I was worried to take it all apart and then discover I cannot find the seals.  Sounds (chugga) that the seals are not too big a problem to find then ?

seals weren't a problem for the ardea in all fairness, i think we paid about £20 for the 2 halfshaft seals and the pinion seal delivered,i'll ask my dad about the pinion seal on an aprilia as he's just stripped one to swap the cw&p over to my axle for a better ratio he may know the seal size for that one

I've just (almost) finished re-building the diff on my 1st series Aprilia. All the oils seals are felt types. Have a look here for more info.
http://web.me.com/noelmacwhirter/home/Rear_end_rebuild.html I did fit a proper oil seal to the pinion shaft under the gland nut, was just a standard size.

Re Aprilia rear end rebuild

Lovely stuff, Noel, may I ask you to post the url on the "technical information only" thread before it gets lost in the mists of time?  I would not have found it (and I want to do my Aprilia back end) but for idle curiosity.

Aprilia rear end rebuild.

Watch out for numerous torsion bars having been welded into the trailing arms.

Post war or wartime mod when spares were scarce.

As some of you will have noticed, I up loaded some Fulvia diagrams by mistake.  These are truly Aprilia.  No 1 full wiring diagram
