If anyone still has or knows of the car detailed below, I have been contacted by someone who by chance has found the bill of sale for the car, dating from 1944, when it was sold secondhand (he found it tucked inside a old book he bought!) - and he is happy to pass this on if of interest.

Lancia Aprilla saloon

Purchased second hand on 8th March 1944, from Kevill-Davis & March Ltd, London W1
Purchase price £565

Reg no CUE 126
Chassis no 38/7502
Engine no  9241

This car was at Richard Thorne's premises at the time of the Driving Tests (in 2008 I think). It was previously owned/restored by Fred Townsend but I dont know who owns it now.It was looking very smart when I saw it!

I think Neil meant "Lancia" years, they age slowly and gracefully

The ex-Fred Townsend car was bought a couple of years ago by one Terence Donovan (apparently a photographer, but not THE photographer) who was/ is its enthusiastic new owner. I don’t know if Terence is an LMC member, but if he is on the register then I am sure he will be interested to know about this document.

It does seem a lot of money - at that time, the equivalent of more than one or two desirable London houses!

The easiest way to find out if the car is registered with the Club is to ask the Membership Secretary!

Duly done - I gather he is in the club, or has been recently, so I'm sure Diana will be able to put me in touch.  Quite a story really...

The story has a happy, and if you think about the odds, a truly unlikely ending, as the car exists, the owner is found, and the paperwork is on its way to being reunited with the car for the first time in probably more than half a century...!

Yes, a good and happy ending! Making connections like this is just one of the things a club is for – and an outcome that probably wouldn’t have happened without the Forum.

You might just get a 1 series BMW for that, which might be a fair comparison (or could you import a new Delta?). Either way the Aprilia would be a bargain because quality cars were generally out of peoples reach in the '40's.
