Mario Marchesini of Budrio and our “Italian eye” caught this transporter with Polish tags (many FIAT models are made in Poland). Mario thinks the much taped up Prototype might be a new four door Lancia Ypslion. Photograph copyright Mario Marchesini.

New Ypsi is going to be 5 door and built at the Tychy plant in Poland, 500 production is going to Italy. Leaves a gap in the Lancia range for a smaller car I hope.

Hi Lee, I assume that's what he means anyway as they have 4 doors  and a hatch whatever they are.

Assuming this is the preferred strategy for Fiat/Chrysler rather than Lancia going into the upper prestige/luxury market which I personally would have favoured then its a great idea, an upmarket 5-dr super-mini as there are too many chic 3-dr cars out there- think 500, Mito, A1 etc. This is a niche worth exploring for someone wanting an up market car in a city environment thats small enough to manouvere but big on style and comfort with a little practicality thrown in, after all what's out there now? A top of the range Polo, those small albeit expensive crossover type Juke's & Mini's, not much else other than smaller MPV's, but no real luxurious contenders.

Lets hope the quality/package is there and its marketed right, after all the latest multi air engines are top class, you never know it may even be UK bound too.

Steady on though, let's not get carried away, have we got confirmation it is going to happen yet?

a year later..   http://www.flickr.com/photos/64897877@N02/6267897686/

I would certainly urge anyone to go try a 0.9 if not to marvel at the novelty of the 'magic parking' system then to experience just how smooothly and effortlessly this 2 cylinder delivers.
