Yes, looks that way but are you 100% sure that your choke is fully in and you're driving
off choke ?
I wouldn't necessarily rely on the warning light. The cable has a long way to go
in a Flaminia and mine proved troublesome until it was changed.

The choke has to be manually returned at the carburettor to be fully off. If not the plugs get terminally sooty. So to the rings problem.

I have stripped some parts to be fitted to a rebuilt engine. The thermostat housing was still watertight despite the corrosion, as there was still enough material for the top hose to seal. The underside of the inlet manifold has drain pipes leading from the inlet tracts. What are these for I wonder?

I now understand the pipes are to drain petrol in the event of flooding. And it would be a good idea to extend the pipe to avoid petrol dripping near to hot exhaust pipes!

Similar on the Appia...I think a length of rubber tube was originally connected to take the excess fuel away from the engine compartment...I have always wondered what happens to the mixture if you close off this drain.

Its not just for flooding - but percolation. The heat from the engine could make the gas boil out if one stopped for a while on a very hot day. Had this problem on a 3C Flaminia many years ago in the desert of southwest USA, led to backfire and fire.
The idea of the drains is fine, but they get clogged up and don't work and you have no way of really knowing.
Its likely less of a problem on a single carb but it also depends how thick is the spacer (heat isolator) from the carb to the intake manifold.

On the Flaminia/Aurelia is there a ball valve or something?
When I had the heads off my Aurelia B12 a year or so ago I was intrigued to see they were open pipes. The narrow bore and length means insufficient air flow back to the plenum (s) - single twin choke carb with drain on each bank... |
