The ex John Woodgate Aurelia B24 Spider chassis number B24*1055 is coming up for auction at RM Monterey on the 20th August 2011.

It was partialy restored when John owned it, but was fabricated with an aluminium body! I wonder what this has done to the structural integrity of the monocoque??!!

Sounds like it's very unoriginal if it really has the suspension stated in their blurb. It does look nice though!

If my memory serves me correctly, the price this car achieved at Stoneleigh was actually quite high given its somewhat unknown condition then. I seem to remember seeing a written report from an acknowledged UK authority on this model pre-auction and certainly this raised a lot of queries regarding the condition and integrity of the body.
The estimate today is probably about right for a 'good' car and I am therefore intrigued to see what price is actually achieved for yet another black B24 with a non original interior.

The price at H&H was £99,000, ( see link) add to that the cost of 4,000 hours of restoration.........

if i'm honest, i've never understood the fuss over a syder, i think the cabriolet/convertable is a far nicer looking car, each to their own i suppose but i wouldn't say no to either  Wink

I'm sorry to see that thye've repeated the nonsense about the Andrea Doria ( don't tell Francesco.....) John Doyle certainly did not own it in the 50's and 60's (  he lived in Turin in the 70's when I knew him...and the car was new in England...) - and if I was paying that amount I would want a proper steering wheel and proper road wheels - not the bling bling fake wires that expensive Spiders must have nowadays.....Somehow I don't think we'll be seeing it at next year's AGM......

I have found my copy of the 'UK specialist' vehicle report which was given to me by H&H when they auctioned it and it makes interesting reading!
Bearing in mind the fact that a few 'replica' B24 spiders have apparently been made and also the way that car values are going, it will be interesting to see what price is actually realised for this car even with the steering wheel, black paint, wire wheels and lurid interior never mind the history..
Of course I am biased but I do agree that the B24S Convertible is a nicer more practical car in many ways that the Spider but overall the stying of the Spider wins out in my opinion.

I never knew that an Aurelia was the outright victor at the Mille Miglia (see excerpt from the sale catalogue below!).

"Almost immediately, the B20 GT won the Mille Miglia outright – with a margin of victory that thrust Lancia onto the world stage. Other high-profile Lancia victories included the 1951 Le Mans 24 Hours, the 1952 Targa Florio, the 1953 Liege-Rome-Liege Rally, a 1-2-3 at the 1953 Carrera Panamericana and the 1954 Monte Carlo Rally."

I think it's a case of if enough people repeat something enough times, eventually it becomes true!

I wonder what nonsense I can spread that in time is taken as gospel.

How about " My 4th Series Aurelia was the personal transport of Brigitte Bardot when she was having an affair with Charles de Gaulle and subsequently, was used by Herge as the inspiration for his drawings in "The Calculus Affair" prior to being sold at auction for $1million to Prince Rainier as an anniversary gift for Grace!" 

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me so spread the word!

I am sure I heard from someone somewhere that your 4th Series was ex-Fangio that was used by Chiron as a Monte practice car before winning at Pebble Beach.

I think it's a case of the wilder the story, the more credible some people think it is!

On the RM list of results it is shown as sold, for the nice little sum of 423'500 USD!
