My friend Alex, who painstakingly did the bodywork/paint on my B20, has kinda taken these cars to his heart due to getting under their skin, as it were. So whenever he comes across one he feels obliged to converse with its owner. Last week he was in the UK with the family, in his 2+2 Jag E Type, on a trip to the Silverstone Classic. He said to me afterwards that it didn't seem that special considering the sheer amount of E Types that turned up. Almost made them seem a little 'common'. He runs a small restoration buisness, and has no allegiance to any marque, indeed his other 'classics' are a 50's Studebaker saloon, and a 60's Ford Galaxie. Anyway on the way to Silverstone he spied the front of a B20 in his mirrors, then before he knew it, the car zoomed past at a rate of knots. So curious, he gave chase, after a few roundabouts he gave up, as the B20 zipped through them and sped off into the distance. All he knew was that it was 'beige' and had smaller tail lamps than mine, so possibly a series 1 or 2. So who was this 'boy racer' ? Anyone here perhaps ?

Could it be Simon Thornley in his 2nd Series?

Perhaps it’s one (or both!) of these?

Simon admitted to me that he was at Silverstone, he said " I wasn't driving that quickly"

Colin's April09 photo is Simons 2nd Series car. The other one is Adam Tindall's late 4th Series.

I should have noticed - tinted glass and central rear light are tell-tale 4th Series. Both are lovely!

Just to confirm that it was not me in "RPM 388" (4th Series in Mirabello Beige)..... though I wish it was as I have been unable to drive it and indeed any car since early March, following a rather inconvenient heart attack and subsequent fitment of my very own defibrillator (think starter motor and battery).
However, the good news is that I will be back on the road in September (that and being alive!), so we both may well make it to Goodwood on the Friday.
Hope to see everyone there,
Adam Tindell

Hell Adam, although I don't think we have met, I feel that I will be one of many who will wish you a speedy recovery. Roger Elias

Adam, nearly September so not long until you are back on the road. I daresay you still feel rather knocked out, the only advice I can give as a non medic is to keep that battery charged up !!!!!
Hope you are soon 100% fit and well,
Andy

Many thanks to everyone for all the good wishes - much appreciated.
Can't wait to get behind the wheel and enjoy again the Aurelia. No more Big Red Loser Cruisers (a.k.a the Bus!).

Sounds like it was Paul Vellacot who regaled me (again!!!) with his story of fast driving in an Aurelia without using the brakes (etc., etc.,etc.), at Fobello last month.
