Retrimming Fulvia seats

I am finally starting to look at getting my S2 Fulvia coupe restored.  The chap at my local garage, who served his apprenticeship restoring cars, has agreed to do the majority of the restoration for me in his spare time.  He has quoted me £3000 to do the bodywork, engine and respray!  Needless to say I am pleased with the price (though I have to factor in the cost of some panels and other ancilliaries).  He recently replaced the sills on the Lybra and I am delighted with the work he has done.

Unfortunately, he can't do the interior and having decided that I want to re-trim the seats in leather, I took the seats to an upholsterer in Carlisle for a quote.  I am a little shocked at the quote of £1320, which seems to be a little expensive to me!  Has anybody had this type of work done recently?  Does my quote sound expensive, and if so, can anybody recommend somewhere that will do a good job at reasonable cost?  I am happy to transport the seats anywhere in the country if they can do a good job at a good price!

Yes I had my HF seats trimmed in black leather by Brian Cates and am pleased with the out come and cost.

My Flavia Sport needed new seats, so I made some replica Zagato Corse seats. Including new foams and black leather the pair were £650-00 and are superb.

I wish I knew your body shop! I'm looking at ~£3k just to get the bodywork ready for the re-spray!!! How much work is your Fulvia requiring, I guess it can't be too bad or needing a full re-spray at that price.

john black[always busy] at herne bay trimmed my fronts exceptionally well in a very authentic vinyl for 40 quid each a couple of years ago.probably as cheaply as could be done when the car was built in 1969.can you do one of your inflation calculations David?also got a quote last week for 200 to do one seat bottom cushion in my flaminia[in leather].best regards richard

It is going to be done by somebody who works at the garage that looks after the Lybra.  He will be doing it in his free time, hence the cheap price.  He said that it is not as bad as he was expecting.  I have told him that I would like to take it back to bare metal and even stripping it back is within the £3k price    I am doing all of the work to strip the car including removing all the glass, ready for him to start on the bodywork.

Brian Cates phoned me on Sunday night and gave me a quote which I think is more than reasonable, so my plan is to take the seats to him sometime early next year.

Brian does collection and delivery with enough notice I believe he could do this in frozen North!

When I say "take", it may be that it coincides with a trip away or given to a courier to deliver!  Brian did say that he would arrange delivery back to me once they have been done.
