I am struggling to decide what colour to have my Fulvia painted when the bodywork restoration has been completed.  I am taking the car back to bare metal.  Although do not have an issue if the car is not the colour which it left the factory, it will be resprayed in an original Fulvia colour.  The interior will be done in black leather (currently black vinyl).

My thoughts at the moment are to:

1) Keep it Mirabello Beige as it is now (see attached photo).
2) Take it back metallic blue, which is its original colour (see attached photo).  Although I like blue, I am not sure about this shade of blue or if I want metallic paint.
3) Go for a new colour.  My first thought is red.  I was considering having the black bonnet, but I don't think it would look right on a series 2 car with steel wheels.

My primary concern is that the car looks right, but I am happy make any modifications which make the car more comfortable and reliable.

Thoughts and comments please!

for what it's worth I'd say stay with the original colour. even if it is metallic it will be different and more durable than the original metallic paint.

The blue your car was always looks awefull when the paint is old and oxidised, fresh paint it will look stunning, i generally go for a modern colour as near as possible to origional as any body shop can then match it in the future (heaven forbid!) both of my fulvias were metalics and i chose to keep them origional, neither colour looked pretty when faded or in the tin, however when fresh on the car looked IMO better than red and was far more unusual

Some models of cars naturally suit a lighter or darker shade of colour but the Fulvia is one of those wonderful designs that can look good in either. Personally however I think slightly darker shades - but not too dark - are better. It's personal preference obviously but I wouldn't be choosing white or beige for instance if I had the chance of a bare metal respray.

Red is lovely and will forever be associated with Fulvias but is pretty commonplace so I've voted metallic blue!

If you're going to the expense of having a bare metal respray then imho I wouldn't necessarily be a slave to getting the exact 1970s colour match if you personally feel a subtly different shade suits the character of the car - your car afterall -better!

This colour - not an original choice - on a 1972 Lotus for instance I think looks fab.  Smiley

Stuart - the original blue looks like Jamaica blue, which now-a-days would probably have to be water-based paint plus lacquer coat.  Picking Mirabello biege (or red) could mean that the paint can be simply base coat 'two-pack', and cut and polished.  The finish should look much closer to the original cellulose of 40 years ago, but be much more durable.

Stuart, do you know the name of the original colour and its paint code?

I don't know the name of the colour as the colour plate was changed to Mirabello Beige when the colour was changed.  According to viva-lancia.com there are two different colour codes for metallic blue paint; 132 and 120.  Perhaps one of these codes relates to Jamaica blue as suggested by Roddy.

Kind of Blue (respect to Miles Davis of course).

Stuart you probably have these codes but

Blue Antibes 120 (no paint code)
Azzurro Portofino 132 (IVI 317.822)
Bleu Jamaica 63 (DP 847-96257)

I'd go along to my friendly paint shop and ask to make up samples. As Roddy said today metallics need a laquer coat so put one of the on the testr panel to check as this affects the final result.

This is portofino blue on my old fulvia , i think your colour is jamaica blue but tims got the right idea

Hi i'm new to the forum, anyway my fulvia is Fiat Azzuoro blue similar to portofino blue and think it looks good

Both those blues look great to my eye.  I think the Fulvia is again one of those cars that suits a lot of different colours...
