I am not sure if this latest development in the Fulvia 50 domain has been posted before but Andrea Nistri has organised a meeting of 25 to 50 cars in Northern Italy for the weekend after the Goodwood event. I attended a similar celebration for Flavia 50 organised in 2010 and can thoroughly recommend the organisation and hospitality of Andrea and his organising associates.

It would be possible to attend the Goodwood event one weekend and then spend the week (if you can spare the time) travelling to Italy for the following weekend. Thats what I plan anyhow ...

Details from Andrea are as follows:

European Fulvia 50 anniversary meeting

Next year (2013) is the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of the Lancia Fulvia, a magnificent car with a long history of sports and commercial success. To celebrate this anniversary, there is a plan to hold an international Fulvia meeting in Italy driving on the mountain roads where Fulvias had a lot of rallying success (Rally of the Eastern Alps). It is worth considering that this area is not overwhelmed by mass tourism and offers genuine character and relatively empty roads.

The main meeting location is about 1200 km from Dover via Germany and Austria and can be even driven in a Fulvia in one day as it includes motorway virtually all the way from Calais or Dunkerque. Those preferring motorail services can use a good train link from Northern Germany.

The meeting is not a competitive event and will not include any ability or time trial. It will be an opportunity to know and enjoy an Alpine region stretching across Italy, Slovenia and Austria with the opportunity to visit historic and art-famous sites, taste local gastronomy and top-quality wines. The preliminary program is prepared to cater for diverse interests and tastes.

Meeting dates:
Start: afternoon of May 30th; End: after lunch of June 2nd.
Hotel (with swimming pool and ample reserved car park) in the historic town of Cormons, Italy.

Provisional program:
May 30th: get together wine tasting, registration and dinner at hotel.
May 31st: Alpine tour through Eastern Italian and Slovenia Alps with coffee breaks and lunch on route. Dinner at hotel.
June 1st: Mountain drive through the hills above the town of Cividale with stop at local monastery and lunch in town followed by guided tour of this historic town. Gala dinner at hotel.
June 2nd: visit of medieval town of Venzone followed by buffet lunch in Tarvisio at the border with Austria.

All inclusive cost per two people will be just under 1000 euro including 3-night accommodation, all lunches and dinners with wine, tickets for visits, etc.

Although the meeting will be celebrating the Fulvia launch, all historic Lancias are very welcome.

Thank you Alan for posting this - completely forgot....

I met with Andrea and he showed me around.

It is a very interesting part of Italy close to the Slovenian border and roads are reasonably empty and good driving.

This event goes more under the heading of a meeting rather than a rally....

For those thinking of driving through Italy give Milan a 50km exclusion zone. Roads are bad and congested.

Dolomites are a great area to drive afterwards. On my recent journey I also took the train back to Dusseldorf but didnt get much sleep despite the great pizza and beer at the station. Interestingly I asked to be loaded near the front as I had a tight drive to Hook from Dusseldorf. The station operatives said that would be no problem and loaded me at the back! to compound matters the train picked up more cars and bikes in the night (Munich?) so I almost drove to Calais as time was running out. Luckily no one lost their keys or was on the wrong train.... Got to Hook with 10 minutes to spare.

Ah, but nobody is buying. Can't give the poor little Appia away. Someone is missing out on a real treat. Of course, could always sell a watch.

Peter
did you take the Appia to Angouleme as a Brit friend who lives in the Dordogne and has a Fulvia and spotted a Brit Appia but couldn't see the driver, and I immediately thought of you?

Whenever I look back at old photos I usually find something else of interest, including the relatively poor quality snap of my Flavia Vignale taken at the LMC’s Fulvia 25 event in September 1988 at Goodwood.

My purpose in posting this now is show how primitive Goodwood was 25 years ago, compared to how retro-glitzy it has become, and how it might look for the Fulvia 50.

BUMP!

In preparing a 2013 calendar of events with web links for our Lancia Ireland members last night I noticed that apart from Tim's original notice below and another derelict Fulvia 50 thread nearby, there appears to be no update or currently active point of reference/info for this event on the forum and it is not listed in the calendar. Worse, it seems to have dropped out of the Viva Lancia forthcoming events section in recent months too, having been eclipsed by a number of other Fulvia celebrations!

Hi Alan,

I've linked this thread onto the forum calendar.

The event is also listed under the LMC website calendar and the www.fulvia50.co.uk with Peter Gerrish is listed at the contact.

That is mighty Thankyou! - best candidates for the task of fixing it have done their thing. For a landmark event it was becoming a bit obscured/eclipsed.

I have found that you have to bombard all sorts of different groups people left rignt and centre in order to pull a crowd in the end though I may be wrong as the biggest crowd I have ever pulled is about 30!

Are we also inviting interest from Fulvia owners outside the club or is it strictly confined to members on account of the Goodwood hire aspect?

Reminds me I better attend to my own membership or I may never get to read the answer (or find out what Chugga did next)!

Alan

the event is open to all, and indeed we are going to invite other Lancia Clubs as soon as VL has arrived for LMC members.

Naturally most of the interesting elements will require membership but other Lancia club membership can I believe suffice but for the track I believe day membership will be required for insurance purposes - maybe someone on the committee can expand on this question of insurance.

Hoping for a grand turnout!

Tim

Has anyone posted details on pistonheads in the Alfa, Fiat & Lancia section maybe?   It would be nice to have a large attendance to encourage interest in the marque.

Have any of the magazines expressed any interest in covering the event?

With the snow gone, heavy rain to wash salt off the roads and the sun out it could be time for a drive!

We (www.retro-speed.co.uk) have already carried an intro and will include the full release once the details are carried in V/L. That is unless Tim wants us to go ahead?
