Reading the article : "It was also expensive – the in 1935 standard saloon cost a whopping £895 in England".
Using the Bank of England inflation calculator that comes out at £53,900.
That sounded quite cheap to me for the class of car but "whopping" seems appropriate when Autocar had the Aprilia at £298 in 1937 which is becomes £17,190.
