Spark Plugs
«

I have been using GKN BP7ES plugs since I had my 1300 on the road in 2002. For the last couple of years although she is still great when under load and pulls like a train, she sounds lumpy when idling and carbons up the plugs after a few hundred miles. She does not appear to use much oil and although the tail pipe is black, she does not smoke.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so which plugs did you use to cure it please?

I can recommend Iridium plugs- The Green Spark Plug co will have them, more expensive but worth it.

I always use NGK and always fit BP6ES to our Fulvias.
Having said that, last year for the very first time I had a dud plug but that was the first for over 20 years in a waide variety of cars, all always fitted with NGK.

Hello Chris
I use the NGK iridium plugs successfully in all the Fulvias. For the 1300 my suggestion is :- NGK BPR7EIX.
(The NGK heat numbering system means that a plug '6' will be hotter than a '7', so that would account for the suggestion to use to prevent fouling. However, its use might just run the risk of being too hot at high sustained revs with the chance of pre-ignition & etc.)

Thanks Roddy,
I will get a set and try them. I also use NGK plug caps wherever possible (on B20 etc).

I am told that with modern fuel the tail pipe always becomes black rather quickly, Andrea
