I don’t know about this Lambda, but the "Found in London department store basement" rings bells. This is almost certainly part of the sale in 1955 of a collection of amazing cars owned by the proprietor of the Maples furniture store in Camden High Street..

My friend the late Tony Amato went to that sale and managed to buy the 1920s ex-Brooklands racer Straker-Squire, which he recognised for what it was although it had been fitted with the wrong bodywork. I didn’t meet Tony until eight years later by which time he had got more deeply involved with Lancia Aurelia and Aprilia. The Straker had long gone, but I recall Tony’s pleasure in remembering driving it around Blackheath. This was a four-litre OHC straight six with exposed valve gear and brakes only on the rear wheels. The photo is from its Brooklands days.

The Straker Squire raced with us in the VSCC for a number of years, but not recently. The driver wore matching striped pullover and socks!

The Lambda found in a basement (7th series short torpedo 16066), according to my information, is alive and well in South Africa.

Richard, in auction speak, I have always understood the term AF to be part of the item description and is an abbreviation for either AT FAULT or AS FOUND. 'At Fault' is self explanatory whilst 'As Found' should be taken to mean that the item is at fault ....... the same difference !! I presume that is what is meant in this item description, unless this is a very specific technical reference that would mean something to Straker Squire enthusiasts.

I'm quite frankly amazed at the fascinating stuff you guys find (have the time to find!) out there in the ether. And the light brought to shine on much of it by Colin and others is delightful.

This truly is a wondrous place to visit and has given me a huge lift at the start of another long and almost certainly trying day to be spent in our attempt to make Fulvia 50 with the Fanalone.

Can't help thinking of what many club members are missing out on in their reluctance to participate in the community here and also how much of interest they could share.

I try to limit my time on here to ten minute sessions Robin............

But it usually amounts to 6 sessions per hour.....

I enjoy "meeting" all the posters on here and have met a few in person, which makes the time spent on here very worthwhile in so many ways.

Always a pleasure to read and see all the differing, accumulated experiences on the forum.

I agree posting on the forum on a weekly basis should be an obligatory part of membership!
