by the time all the metal work is done there is very little rust left , I don't believe in this cure rust junk as I have known it to cause micro blisters in paint etc at a later date, best way is to shot blast out anything that's left and paint it properly , rust only continues if its in contact with either moisture or oxygen so as long as its sealed off with a good waxoil or paint it wont continue , my appia has been done now for 12 yrs and had this process , it was as rough as this fulvia and is still in concours condition , its kept in a damp garage and used every yr yet has survived well just from being protected well when finished

Having visited Chugga "garage" is to flatter the storage for his collection of mint Lancias. Its a damp part of the country as well. I'd trust him to paint oil rigs to last...
Going back 15 years I can remember looking at Omicrons work and thinking it was done the previous year and it turned out to be more than 20. When its been done REALLY properly, like with a stainless exhaust, it will last pretty much forever.
Will that be the standard mine is done to? I very much doubt it...
I can remember Bernie Fisher urging me NOT to use wax in box sections and NOT to underseal when he was working on the Aurelia so that any problems would be very obvious and easily attended to. Where I insisted on a lot of wax and an annual underseal back then I think I might take that advice for myself now. Preservation becomes a maintenance task of regular inspection and swift rectification. Its the "paint the underside of the car a nice bright light gloss" school of thought. Not putting wax in the box sections? I'm less convinced than with leaving the underseal off.
Butt weld not lap joint. Paint the insides and backs of sections.

boot floor is now welded in solid, needs a little more work around the tank recess from underneath and a center cross member that the panhard rod connects to fabricating, fingers crossed that will all be done next week

Parry logic : find the worst possible car available and repair it, = affordable project and hours of fun repairing it , me and dad are pretty much the same that we enjoy the restoration and challenge more than the driving, the worse condition the car is in the bigger the challenge yet the most satisfaction on completion strange maybe but keeps the old grey matter active and awake and I'm sure you can relate

as a beginner , I found 1 person turning the machine slowly whilst I fed the metal through, DO NOT try and go back over the swage in reverse just take the pressure off the rolls when you have finished the run that your doing, measure up and mark up the panel 1st and check it atleast twice as once you've put a swage in theres no going back!!!

yesterdays job was finishing making the center cross member that locates the panhard rod and fitting it to the car, not 100% finished yet but its getting there, I've tried to replicate the correct shape so it looks correct and not repaired

yes they do distort , shrinking hammer and dolly sort it out fairly quickly though, when I welded the cross member in I clamped it to the boot floor as you can see but what you couldn't see was a length of inch box that I put on the boot floor to pull everything flat while welding, also the heat of the welds when everythings clamped shrink a lot of the distortion at the same time
