Anyone know this car? Certainly looks nice. Brian?

Hi Derek,
Yes the owner was pointed in my direction by Paul Baker after a local garage recommended he contact Paul.
I had quite a conversation with him a few months ago and from what he told me and from the photos it's a genuine car, he was concerned about the oil pressure gauge dropping so low on tickover, as all of us Fulvia owners know is nothing unusual and if it picks up when you rev the engine it's ok, however he was still concerned even after I tried to reassure him, as all his other cars don't react in the same way, so perhaps this is in the back of his mind.
He hasn't actually had it very long and his first contact with me was at the end of July, and it came from the St Neots Area, it's previous owner wasn't an LMC Member.
I have already checked the Chassis Number and currently it isn't Historic as it was Built in 1972, but I believe it will be eligible next year.

I think it's one well worth buying but it's strong money for a series 2 even though Berlinas prices are picking up a bit, but that's for a prospective purchaser to decide.
To be honest I'd quite like it myself but I'm not likely to buy it unless I sell "Fay", and that isn't going to happen.
One thing I would do though is bin those Coupe wheels, I don't think it does anything for the appearance and IMHO Berlinas look much better on the original steel wheels with hubcaps, I'd also like to see it with the original steering wheel as well.
If anyone wants any further details please pm me.

Brian

Thanks for the comprehensive info Brian, I knew you'd be the go to man! It's not really something I've ever though about, but it looks so nice, and I'm very close to selling my business, so I am very very tempted, and it's not far away. I'm working all this weekend so it'll give me time for reflection,

Cheers

Just a small point. Historics currently extend to those cars built before Dec 31st 1972. This will be extended by twelve months.

Can I echo Brian's comments ref steering wheel and road wheels? Much better looking with originals IMHO. Strong money for a S2 Berlin abut if there really is no rust in the sills and wheel arches then it must be worth a look. In Italy, S1 Berlinas are consistently higher priced now than S2 versions in the same condition and this would be top price.
Showing my age and longevity of Lancia ownership, back in the 70s,  S2 Berlinas always seemed to rust much quicker and more comprehensively than S1 versions. Jacky had a brown S2  with cream leather interior which was only 4 years old (after some Alfa idiot wrote off her perfect S1 2C) and yet it had holes in the doors and sills already and rust creeping out from under the trims on the doors by the windows. Cheaper steel than that used on the earlier cars I reckon.
Mind you it went like the clappers.

Looks great apart from wheels and steering wheel.

I'd say go for it Derek even if it is top money. I couldn't get mine to that standard taking into account the purchase price and where will you find another RHD in similar condition?

I still recon after all the years I've owned Fulvias that a good berlina is a much more satisfying car to own and drive than either a coupe or sport. Looks aside of course! Grin Took mine out yesterday having not driven it for a few weeks (Margaret uses it all the time!) and fell in love all over again.  Cool

Robin.

Thanks for your info so far gentlemen. I see it's advertised on Classic Cars For sale at £6k. I wonder how near £4.5k he will go. Whilst at work tomorrow I'm going to do some serious homework on these cars. Mind you, my wife's comment was "ugh, isn't it ugly". They just don't understand!

Tell her it looks better in the metal  Grin

There's a lot of shape and detail that photos don't show.  Take her for a look?

The interior and boot are huge.  They ride beautifully.

...and its got a Fulvia engine and five speed box, four disks, great steering and handling.

Good luck Derek,
I think the 'Classic Car' asking price is a 'Dream' figure, personally it would have to be A1 condition needing no work at all to jusify the £4.5K, which if you want to be picky it isn't under the bonnet, it would certainly be worth knowing if it comes with the original wheels, hubcaps with the Lancia Badges, and trim rings, and preferably the original steering wheel.
Well worth a look and a bit of horse trading Cheesy

Thanks again gents. David, I agree with you it does look much better in the flesh, definitely to my eyes the nicest of the models, apart of course from the lovely Fulvia coupe. Why did I sell it!!
