This was posted by Steve Wilkinson on Facebook and is a scan from a 1953 Autosport.

Is that an Augusta front axle on the leading car?

Looking at the name of the driver, I am wondering whether that is the Pierce MG resurrected by Julius Thurgood some years ago and then seen at various historic racing events in recent years, most recently in the hands of James Willis. It look a bit different now with a low nose.

I think it had an Aprilia rear end, which suggests that the front was Aprilia. You can see pictures of it on the web but there are so many extra dampers, links etc that it is a bit hard to be sure. I leave that to photo anoraks with plenty of time.

It was never an ERA beater in spite of the picture!

When I take photos of friends racing they always enjoy the ones where they are in with the leaders.  Who's to know they were being lapped ?
