Its called a Bentley R type 'Goode' Special dating from 1954 I recall. Rather large and I think it usually lives (lived?) in the USA.. I didn't see it in the race at all but it was nearby in the paddock being looked after by JD Classics for the owner/driver I think. Not my cup of tea at all although apparently it was built in the 50's.

I've just blown the photo up and it looks like a Bentley Version of a RR Silver Cloud, but I'm not that way up on RR's and Bentleys. Brian 8227

I think Peter's photo is at Woodcote on the first lap after the restart when I was being extra cautious about cold tyres. By the end of the race I had overtaken the red Alfa, the blue Jowett and the gunmetal grey Frazer Nash and the Turner leading the group in the photo had pulled off. The Bentley Special doesn't float my boat at all.

Don't know how I missed this post but what a great set of photos of what looked like a fantastic day. Three things I miss about the UK - fish and chips, early drive to Goodwood on a glorious day, English pub on a summers evening. In fact I used to combine all three, Goodwood, a drink in the Spread Eagle at Midhurst (pricey but where teams would stay in the 50's and a Hawthorn favourite), then a visit to the chippy in the main street. The photos bring it all back. At the risk of being blackballed from the Lancia club my 'take home' would be the Porsche Abarth in the pits. The body is a work of art.

That looks a good old cafe David. Like the one at the Devils Punch Bowl used to be before the National Trust took over. I remember having a drink in the Spread Eagle with my wife and we were sitting listening to Lady Cowdray and some old colonel type as they spoke about various royal visitors. Her favourite was Princess Anne as she asked for an ironing board straight away and did all her own ironing etc. It made us laugh because one minute we were rubbing shoulders with the gentry, five minutes later we were sitting in the Fulvia in a car park scoffing cod and chips. Happy days.

The Toat is ridiculously down at heal for that area - all miss matched furniture and peeling paint - but the generic "Full English" is up to snuff and its "nearly there". The one thing that does recommend it is a HUGE car park for anyone heading down with a trailer. You'd never have to reverse...

For an evening meal in the Goodwood area we use the Royal Oak pub in East Lavant just down the road from the circuit. Not cheap but good service, interesting food and always busy and IMHO you get what you play for there. Also used by many well known drivers and the car park can be interesting.. Chris
