As I am currently living in the South of England. Willie Ferguson has agreed to organise the venue for next year. We had a discussion about this at the recent AGM, and Willie has found an excellent venue at a very good price. The following will appear in the VL.

The Great Northern weekend 2015 will take place in the World Heritage Centre at New Lanark over two nights from 8th - 10th May 2015. I have reserved 40 rooms at the New Lanark Mill Hotel, which is situated by the falls of Clyde, a very scenic location, all rooms have a view of the falls. new lanark World heritage Centre is sign posted from the M74, with easy access and beutiful scenery in the surrounding approach.

The Hotel has offered a very good rate of £130 per night for a couple, dinner bed and breakfast, and £85 for a single. There are two suites available for a £25 supplement. In addition to these rooms, there are 8 cottages with lounge, kitchen and two double bedrooms each at the same price for full occupancy.

Please book direct with the Hotel 01555 667200 and quote Lancia Motor Club. £10 per person is payable at time of booking.

On Saturday, a tour will be organised taking in local points of interest, and a tea break. In the evening the Gala dinner will be held in the Robert Owen Suite.

There will be no booking form available. If you have any problems, or require further information, please get in touch with me either by email or telephone.  When you have made your booking, please let me know, also the car or cars you expect to bring.

The Hotel has an excellent web site for information.

look forward to seeing you there.

Thanks Donald (and Willie),

Have to say last time we visited New Lanark with the family we commented that it potentially would be a great venue for a future GNW so looking forward to getting a booking in shortly.

Whilst the later date does not cause us a problem it is much later than previous GNW's-was there a particular reason for this?

Cheers,

Colin

Hi Colin, It was the only weekend available.  The only reason that GNWs are earlier is that it is generally cheaper, pre season.

Willie and I are pleased with the level of bookings to date, 3/4 of the rooms taken so far.Don't delay too long if you haven't booked yet, it's promising to be a great weekend.

I'm based in Ayr and had planned to nip across on the Saturday or Sunday. Have you a schedule for the weekend yet?

Hi Mike, We are in the early stages of organising the weekends activities but the basic format is everyone arrives during the Friday afternoon and settles in. Meet up for dinner and catch up on the past years events.
The Saturday morning is free time but a tour of the New Mills site is recommended. The afternoon will be taken up with the traditional tour of the area with guide book, and quiz questions. The gala dinner takes place in the evening with prizes awarded for the various quizzes. On Sunday morning it's time to pack up and make our farewells.

We are very pleased that bookings are rolling in and as of today there are 4 rooms left in the hotel and 4 cottages available.Because of the number who will be dining on the Saturday evening we need to advise the hotel of our meal choices in advance. To that end you will shortly be receiving an email from Willie listing the options. Those of you who don't have an email address listed in the 2011 membership register will receive a letter. We must have your replies by the end of March.Special culinary requirements should also be mentioned.

Just 1 room left in the hotel and 2 cottages so if you want to book do it now.Emails have been sent out to everyone whose addresses we have and letters will go to those without email, please reply by the date requested. The observation route has been finalised and promises the usual mix of spectacular scenery and some brain teasing questions.

Thanks to Willie and his team for another brilliant GNW, my first in Scotland. Brilliant scenery, brilliant organisation, brilliant company.

I drove back in one go, 188 miles in 3 1/2 hours, my longest single stint in my Lancias I think.
